The dirt section at MAC has been build, but it won't be packed until Monday or Tuesday. Until then, any bike traffic will just result in ruts.

Thank you to Jordan, Chester, and Andy for their help in watering during construction.

The new layout was dictated somewhat by the following criteria;

For a track that annually has to be build up and torn down, the cost and volunteer effort had to be reduced.
Bringing the track further away from the asphalt for improved safety.
Lowing difficulty level.
Dry conditions during construction.

This fall after there is some moisture in the ground, I can return to touch it up or modify as needed. Until then, hopefully we all enjoy it.

I rent in a house and get a lot of space for the money. About 7 weeks ago my bathroom drain shit the bed (pun intended), and the landlord brought in a crew of amateurs to fix it. Needless to say, said amateurs botched the job not once but twice, and they made a huge mess in the process. One thing in particular is that they really dirtied the carpet in my large room leading out from the bathroom, out the door of the room, and down the hall to the stairs. They just came a couple days ago and did some halfass attempt to remove the worst stains, and the carpet is still disgusting. Weeks went by with this and a mess in the house, and the landlord has shown no initiative to clean the carpet other than to set a home carpet cleaner in the foyer. She didn't even bother to buy the soap.

At this point I'm furious. 7 weeks and still horribly stained and soiled carpet that I get sick looking at. Cleaning ladies are scheduled to come tomorrow, but I'm told they will not touch the carpet. I thought about withholding rent until the carpet is clean, but this morning I got worried and put a check and note out indicating that I'm filing a complaint with my county's office of landlord-tenant affairs. The problem is that I'm not sure whether I have any rights by law here.

What would you guys do? Serious, thoughtful individuals are especially encouraged to reply. :D

Just got a new 510 delivered yesterday and the forks slipped off the pallet during shipping. Apparently the bike just bounced around in the crate like a ping pong ball. Forks, plastics, and caliper all damaged. Hopefully it doesn't get totaled. My problem is my insurance didn't go into effect until today. The shipping company is sending out an adjuster to look at it but I'm afraid they will say it wasn't packed correctly and then I have to deal with getting the money from a dealer that is 900 miles away. Any advice?

I put it back on and used the front brakes for the rest of the day, but they were very soft due to all the air in the system. It is a radial master cyl. 16mm

So on the cap it says "dot 4" brake fluid only, i used "dot 3/dot 4" fluid to refill and bleed it, is it okay to do that?

As of now, the brakes are about useless. If you pull the lever quick, it will do its job, but if you pull it slow as if your just slowing down for a light the lever goes all the way in. You can see it suck fluid from the res. as your pulling it in, and when you let go fluid goes back into the res. Correct me if im wrong, but that isnt supposed to happen is it?

I have given myself the unenviable task of choosing a new bike instead of my SMS630 (which I love dearly) but will not like my new journey of London to Manchester (probably twice a month) and as such I need a bike thats more suitable. Here's my stats and bike shortlist with some pro's and con's any help constuctive or not will be appreciated.

I'm 6'1 and 11 stone(70kg). My usual riding is as fast as possible and I wheelie at nearly every safe opputunity. I used too be a courier in London so am a fairly confident rider on all types of road. I live in the UK!

My current 10' SMS630 will be used as the part ex on the new bike as I simply can't afford too buy another bike alongside the SMS630 that will be reliable enough and not so boring as too send me too sleep on the M40.

I've previously owned a GSXR600K6 and didn't like the way I was sat or the way I rode (ridiculous speeds everywhere) so a sportsbike is out of the question and I've owned both a Weeand a V-Strom so would like a change from them even though I know the 1K Strom would do the job well if not for the silly high speed wobble after 130!

The List:

Buell Ulysee's - 08' onwards - Not many around and am scared of a possible parts shortage in the UK. Like the idea of easy motorway cruising and the torque, not sure about weight and general funny.

Triumph Speed Triple 1050 - Like the look of the bike and hear it's a hooligan at heart, but can it go long distance easily and haul luggage too?

Triumph Sprint ST 1050 - Probably a bit too sensible for an hooligan work and no so sure on the styling.

Triumph Tiger 1050 - No idea if this is any fun at all and can it sustain a high speed easily, but I'm probably gonna head to my local Triumph Dealer (Jack Lilley) too have a chat this weekend.

KTM Adventure 990 - Always liked the look of these and If it goes well at speed I'd probably look at one but not so keen on an orange one!

4th gear: 40mph
5th gear: 52mph
6th gear maximum speed: 70mph
On 6th gear, i have the feeling that the bike is demanding more power. I have adjusted my clutch cable to several degrees, from tense to lose, but just can't find that smooth spot.
I tried several engine oil types, 15w40, 20w40 and lately 20w50.
Note that i have also changed the stock exhaust into slip-on, but kept the stock air filter.
My Wr's engine sounds like an orchestra. The frequency in engine noise isn't stable. It can be so smooth at times, and at others it feels like a storm.
I haven't got my clutch plates checked or replaced but i am having the feeling it's all gotta do with it.
Any advice? recommendations?
Please leave your comments.

I'm looking to purchase a KTM 690 and I'm not real sure which one I should get. I've been looking mostly at SMR's and Dukes's.

Looking at the specs they appear very similar, and marketed towards the same audience. Although the SMR has a Supermoto look and the Duke has a bit of a naked sportbike look. Either way looks aren't that big of a factor as I like them both. I did notice that the SMR had more suspension travel then the Duke, I was wondering how this would affect it's road characteristics.

My assumption is not much, given an equal spring rate and same shock settings I would expect them to behave nearly the same. Just if you were to take it offroad and hit a jump the SMR could clearly absorb a larger impact before bottoming out. Am I wrong about this? I will be driving nearly always on the street and would be willing to pay more for the Duke if it's better at this, but not because it looks like it's better at this. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your responses and feel free to include any other opinions about these models? Are there any other signifcant differences besides the suspension travel?

The pull of the stock cable sucked and they are notorius for breaking so I figured it was the perfect excuse to upgrade. Kit ain't cheap but well worth the money. You lose the kill switch which will allow the bike to start in gear but pulling the clutch to start is habbit to me so I don't care. My levers don't match now but that's no big deal either. I'll post some pics tomorrow if anyone is interested. I highly recommend the swap. Also installed some Fastway low boy foot pegs that are bad ass..

Cliff Notes Version

Broke a valve and destroyed top end and a few other bits.
Sent motor off to have DJH rebuilt it.
Concurrently, contacted Torque Monster about his engine that is for sale due to concerns about potential rebuild cost.
Talked with DJH, about rebuild cost, and estimate is less than I thought.
Called Torque Monster and told him despite my interest in this forum about buying engine, I decided to go with rebuild. He totally understood and is in fact friends with DJH.
