Random question for SSW

How come you guys don't ever enter in some MRA Lightweight GP races and see if you can't whoop up on some SV's and TZ's with the 550? It'd be entertaining to watch. Especially at a track like PPIR which gives a supermoto not necessarily an advantage, but makes the bike equal as far as usable top speed, as its a fairly small RR course. If nothing else, just another reason to fly the banner, quite possibly on a podium...as if everyone didn't know who SSW was already. Seems like MRA is always getting RoadracingWorldMagazine coverage.

IDK, just thinkin out loud...

been discussed amongst the team. we would like to do it at some point, but lack of time and funding is the main reason.

the aprilia has been reliable, but in all reality its get very little usage. campaigning one road racing is a whole other deal.

the sinclairs will only be at handful sm rounds this year as it is.

I have to agree with Eddie and Stuart. The MRA is a whole new level of cash flow plus if you want to run more than 1 class on a SM bike you need to race both Sat and Sun. The MRA is a good club and the tracks and speed are fun but it can't be taken lightly. We get away with running motocross gear at our tracks but you have to have leathers with the MRA so that is just the beginning of the cost increase. The list goes on. This of course is coming from a road racer. If I could run both series with my bank account I would. But I would do the MRA on a street bike not a SM bike. I am only doing the first race to get on HPR and to support the MRA.

I am running a full season with MRA and supplementing minimoto / supermoto. The MRA gets more expensive with sprint classes. Shelling out 150 for 7 laps is tough to justify. But Endurance on the other hand is 30 minutes + practice for $60. I am going to try and balance all 3 this year but we will see how it goes. I think it would be cool to see some sumo's out at PPIR, or pueblo.

I had thought about racing Superstreet also till the thought of a squid on a GSXR1000 ass ramming me crossed my mind. Hence the decision to enter Colorado Class. I like the LW Endurance idea, lots of track time. Wish I could do it but my shop is open Saturdays.

I renewed my license. My initial plan was to run Superstreet and not renew the license but even though the race would be fun, no mater how good you are you just can't compete with street bikes. So fighting for 2nd to last didn't sound like fun to me. At least in CO class we have a chance with out SM bikes. I just figured it would be more fun. The membership only cost me $75 cause I was already an associate member. Plus entry fees and I can't remember what they were. Maybe I can do another race later in the season and make the membership worth while. Not really too big a deal. This weekend is going to be fun.

On a side note if anybody is planning on going to this weekends MRA races let me know cause I have free entry tickets from being a class sponsor. You can stop by the shop if you want some tickets.

Thanks fo the info. I'm not that good so I'll be fighting for 2nd to last regardless of the class. Trackdays are just getting boring and I want to line up on a grid. Maybe I'll see you in CO class later in the year.

I think Jesse just wants some SSW stickers :)
For the back window of my family car Cutlass? I can even make passes in it.....on the OUTSIDE...

Very cool, I had heard you signed up for racing this year again. The ninjas definitly looked like fun. It's gonna be a tough class though cause alot of those guys don't weight much. Somebody had mentioned me doing it but at 6'4'' and 195 it would be tough to compete but still fun. I wanted to do LW but just can't do the Saturday thing. I'll see you out there this weekend.

Oh and as far as fighting for second to last it is still fun. As long as you have somebody to battle with it will always be racing. Don't underestimate yourself though. If you were doing Colorado class you would probably be closer to the front due to the power disadvantage of the ninjas. Our bikes are Double or more the power of one of those so we hold a little advantage. Our only disadvantage is the straights and corner speed. This is all speculation though. We'll find out the truth this weekend. I'm hoping to do more races later this season. I'll post up when I do so maybe we can get a good turnout to represent the Shootout series.

MRA for SM bikes

Well I have been out to HPR with my 450 a few times and plan to run it in some MRA races later in the year. Based on lap times the SM bikes should be more then OK for LW and Colo classes. As for the ninjas based on my times on both the 450 is at least 10-12 seconds a lap faster at HPR. Go figure the 450 is a least 100lbs lighter and has 2X the power. The main pain for the SM bikes is if the want a belly pan of some sort and the cost of a steering damper set up (per their rules). For sure the cost of entries and what not is steep but not bad for the track time. if you work it out per mile it looks pretty good!

Just an update on how the SM bikes will do in the MRA.

HPR sucks for our bikes. My gearing was 16/40 on my 04 crf450r and I was still on the rev limiter for 1/4 of the back straight and I got radared at 104mph. You can put a 17 frt sprocket and get some more mph but you have to take some material off the swingarm to do it. I took 5th in Colorado Class out of probably 15 guys.

PPIR is a different story. I took 3rd yesterday in Colorado Class. Definitely fun on the SM bike. You can actually hold the throttle wide open from the last turn all the way around the track to turn 3. The front end pushes a little through turn 1 but it will hold. But we honestly don't stand a chance against the 125's. My fastest lap was a low 1:07. The guy who won on a 125 ran a 1:03.

If any of you are thinking about running a MRA race this year I would highly recommend running PPIR in September. The other tracks just aren't as much fun for our slower bikes.

So true Eddie.

Let me rephrase my last statement a little so I don't bum anybody out. Riding our bikes on the HPR straights sucks but the sections that we will be running for our races are very fun. Even if they were left alone they are not too fast at all. So this weekend will be a blast for all of us at HPR. Especially with all the surprises I'm sure Eddie and Kevin have in store.
