Found out recently that Yamaha came out with a factory back torque limiting clutch for the 2014 and up YFZ450R quad. Does anyone have experience installing and riding this in a WR450 or YZ450? Curious if its possible and how it compares to an STM, or Hinson etc. slippers.

I have one in my 07 wr450.
It's not as free spinning as a stm or hinson but it does keep the wheel from locking up on downshifts.
Iirc i had about $300 in it total.
I used most of the factory wr clutch discs aside from the three outer plates where the clutch pivots. For those you have to get the plates for the newer yfz quad

I also use it in my 2012.

I did use the same parts as KD but also utilized the clutch springs from a wr250f ( same motor style as the wr450 not the new reverse cylinder motor ) and modified a big stainless washer to fit at the bottom of the pockets where the springs sit. ( 250 springs are a smaller diameter )

I can't remember what sized washer I picked up, I took a spring ( the 250 one ) and found a washer just about the same size as the inside diameter of the spring. I drilled it out with a unibit so it fits at the bottom of the pocket on the tapered post. You'll also have to shave a little off the outside of the washer to make it more oval shaped to fit in the pocket. Make sure you use a stainless washer and not a zinc plated standard steel one. Took me about 15 minutes to modify all three washers with a cordless drill, a unibit, sanding disk and a pair of pliers.

It's a true 1 finger clutch and slides ( releases ) much easier that it did with the factory springs. Haven't had it slip in 3000 + miles and I'm a heavy guy ( 230 ).

very interested in this...

can someone (pinepig) verify the part numbers, and quantities listed above in the link are correct, and that is all you need?

5 1td-16371-00-00 qty1
7 1td-16324-00-00 qty1
9 1td-16331-00-00 qty 2
10 1td-16351-00-00 qty 1
11 1td-16333-00-00 qty 3
12 1td-16774-00-00 qty 3
13 1td-16352-00-00 qty 1
14 1td-16337-00-00 qty 3
19 5ta-16154-00-00 qty 1
20 1td-16178-00-00 qty 3
21 90215-20005-00 qty 1
22 90170-20327-00 qty 1

looks like about 264.65 in parts, if the prices are correct, and the qyt's are correct.

anyone have a how to, or link to where to find out to to do this, so I don't destroy a clutch, transmission, or motor?

HELP IS VERY APPRECIATED!

You won't need 19, reuse your WR part, you will need one of each 15/16 to take up the space from the larger diameter hole on that bottom clutch plate. Flat one on bottom, the " cone " one on top, high part of the cone should be toward the center facing up ( it'll make sense when you see it ).

Sorry about the 6 month delay, I didn't see the post pop back up.
