    hello all
I've been riding bikes for most of my life and today I bought a Suzuki 400sm
What a revelation! I've had fzrs, gsxrs, eta all. My usual ride for the last four years is a 2002 sv650 that has been great, however the sm is AWESOME.
I'm keeping the the sv as it such a good bike, but the sm is so much better
    in the city. love it.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the 900 for a slipper?

i say no, there are better things to spend the money on first. Like suspension. Took my front forks to cycle sports and for around $300 bucks they worked magic. I put a stiffer rear spring on, whcih was a little less than $100. Later, i'm gonna get the rear shock worked on.

I also got a GPR steering stablizer and it helps on the freeway, as well as banging turns.

You'll only get the benefits of a slipper clutch when you're going really fast. You can't go really fast without suspension.

it only cost 300 to work your forks? What did they do? re-valve?

I gave them just the forks and they installed stiffer springs, and played with the shim stacks. I'm not sure what the shims do, but it definantly stiffened up the dampening. The guy said it should feel more like a sportbikes fork, and it does. It has the original valving in it. I forget if the new seals and new oil was included with the price...

good point but I bought a brand new bike and I would rather not do any suspension changes besides setting the sag and dampening.

How much was the steering dampener?

I was thinking about calling RG3 to dial in my suspension.. only problem is they are pricey.. as in 1500+ But I have heard they are amazing. Like riding a whole new bike.

I dunno man... After feeling the improvement that cycle sports did, I personally wouldn't spend that kind of cash. I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference or be able to use the suspension to its full potential anyways.

What kind of bike did you get ADD??? The dampener costed me about 500 bucks i think. I got the GPR sub-mount with the fat-bar conversion, so i had to get a fat-bar too. I bought it from the thumpertalk store.

I got a Aprilia 550. I think I'm with you on the damper. Installed for 600. Since there is only the weld on for the Aprilia I went for a the shop doing it.

I think I'm going overboard with a new bike but it a one shot deal.

mmm. I know of someone who ran into problems when he tried to get a slipper clutch installed on his 550. Try calling Jay at Off the Lip 597-9020. He's the one that helped sort out the problem. He can help you answer any questions about it.

I think it's part of Campbell so I doubt they'll let it out.

I can't wait to ride it. My bike got delayed cause of the Daytona races this week.

I wanna trade a 250 2 stroke for a SM conversion kit for a 250f. I wanna build the f for a spare or for a bike that friends can sample or tag along with.

The 250 is a little too wild for someone that never rode a 2 stroke 250 before.
