    Default what to do about hand numbness?

    What is every one doing to help out with low frequency vibs, the kind you really can just barely feel...but make your hands go numb?? I have a 99 KTM 200 exc motard. Put on pro taper fat bars and now my hands start to go numb in 10 min's. Any suggestions, and im not made of money so please dont tell me to go buy a new tripple

    You could try different grips, handlebar end weights or fill the inside of the bar with vibration absorbing material.

    filling the bars full of silicone , helps alot with the vibrations . get a caulking gun and pump them full . But I think you may be gripping too tight also . clamp on with more with your knees and loosen your grip with your hands a bit.

    my hands go numb after about an hour of continuous riding,i just let off the gas and shake them to let the blood flow back in them then keep riding.im dont know what to do about every 10 minutes though! maybe gel grips might help take some vibes out or the other thing is maybe a thinner grip,i run the renthal smooth grips since they seem really thin and seem like it takes less to hold on to.

    May not be made of money but if it's that bad I would look into maybe some flexx bars ($329) or at least their anti vibe inserts ($59) at www.fasstco.com I don't have a problem with my super smooth 450 but if I did I wouldn't think twice about those bars, heard great things! Good luck!

    I have gel grips, yesterday i installed some weighted bar end sliders. I also picked up some rubber door/window insulator strip, put it around the bar in the clamps then tightened them back down. Only when for a 3 min ride after but i didnt even feel any buzzing at all

    I had a some anoying grip vibes on my XR650R, after i installed a pair of Acerbis handguards it was way better! They give the bars a little more support and dampen vibes.

    dude you are f'in nuts....thats not safe at all man. ever come off a jump or down from a wheelie and had the bars rotate forward..? not good stuff, on the street it could cost you your life.

    renthal kevlar grips are the softest available besides the big fat gel ones. like kubiac said smaller grips tends to reduce hand fatigue for some riders.

    no joke ill second that, i was looking down hoping someone would already mention these grips...theyre awesome, and ive got 8k miles on mine so far and they dont wear out or get sicky like some other grips do after a ton of usage.

    I just swapped out my bars and the vibes that used to numb my hands are gone. Old bars were some cheapo aluminum 7/8" bars. New bars are Zeta SX (1 1/8", had to swap out upper triple clamp also) which have large ribs on the inside of the bars. Not sure if if is the ribs or what, but the numb fingers are no more. Rode for an hour straight today without a hint of numb fingeritis.

    i thought of that first, but i really dont think there going to go any where. I put all i had into trying to move the bars after tightening them down. And being that it is rubber i would think it will grip the bars better than metal on metal

    understand, but what would be diffrent from clamps you buy that have rubber in the mounts? And im not being an ass im asking cause i didnt think it would be a problem but i also wanna be safe.

    because a rubber mount riser is sandwiched between metal fasteners...so there is nowhere for it to go.

    you have the weather stripping sandwiched, but there is still another axis for it to rotate on.

    my hands go numb as hell dude...ive done lots of reading about it. comes down to needing to ride more, use your legs to grip instead on all hands, and drink less i guess that really f's up your circulation.

    use the "Great Stuff Foam" inside the bars. Just fill'em up with out the grips on, let it dry, then trim the edges off. Works for me.

    This is going to sound crazy but i know exactly what u mean and i know how to condition your hand to avoid it :

    works each finger individually - its made for guitarists but it works wonders for motorcyclists that are active on the grips ( see : racers, dirt riders, sumos )

    do it when ur on the phone, at work or just watching a movie - helps a lot

    Or if you wanna go one step bigger, get you one of these in the 400 lb resistance. One of my powerlifting buddies showed me these - I can close a 300 lb one, but it's F'in hard!!!

    Actually with the angle that those are at for closing, there is actually a lot of stress placed on the pinky. That is one of the first areas of the grip to go - you just have to use it so that the ends would be facing towards the floor not upward.

    BTW - Just checked with my buddy and the one that I was using was a 250. He's def stronger than me and can barely close the 300lb. If you're not an avid weightlifter, I would not recommend anything higher than 100-150 lbs cuz it prob won't budge.

    Man, I was big time into guitar back in the day. Had a Les Paul, several Ibanez S540's, Fender Lone Star Strat....sold all of them off and just have my Washburn D36 acoustic left. I need to get back to playin....

    But I digress - anyways, any form of fore arm exercise will help with overall grip ability. The stronger you are, the less effort exerted, the less the fatigue

    I love heavy metal - the ibanez is a dream.. though like you, i have but an acoutic left - an ibanez.

    " to those getting numb paw" - get some strength / resistance training device - be it 300lb test or 75lb test - your wrists, fingers, hands, and forearms will thank you

    and who knows ? you might actually improve your clutch control
