I am not sure what feeling a frog up has to do with riding dirt, but I am sorta new to this thing. I want to ride dirt, is Rampart still open? Wednesday ride? I put the knobbies back on Sunday (cause the sun was shining in the south side of the quonset (sp?), and I could work without insulated gloves on). We then went on a nice little 20-ish mile ride, wearing insulated coveralls.

I also gotta agree that making the transition to SM for a dirt rider is easier...I came from a road race background and totally suck in the dirt...
Thanks for the offer, I will definitely take you up on it. Name the time and place and I should be able to be there.

I'm going to hold off until I can get a ride on a bike setup for SM, then I'll decide what I'm doing. Thanks.

When? I think I prefer the track at Berthoud (uh, Valley Dirt Riders?), but I am soo darn slow that I am dangerous to myself and others.

I say put on the sand paddle and go for it!!! It was only about 18" when I just shoveled it a minute ago.

I have some old skis you can put one on the front to go with the sand paddle rear. What could be better?

The 610 could run in sportsman, anything the DR-Z could. I haven't raced it, but I do track days every now and then. If you are interested we could meet up somewhere if the weather cooperates.

Out here in eastern CO, there is NO snow, of course there is no asphalt either. The problem is, we were shipping cattle, hauling bales, preg-checking, etc. I rode around for like 20 minutes before sunset, but got mah butt chewed for scaring the calves. BAH they need to get used to crazy dirt bikers anyhow. Tomorrow I have to go on a little 12 mile trail ride to the creek bottom to change some settings on the timeclock for the water pump. I am sure I will have to make some tracks in the creek, maybe attempt the bank a couple times. Then another 15 er so miles down to another pasture to pump a tank out that has an air-lock. The pump will lumber down on the pickup, I will catch up after the previous creek run. Some creek banks down west too, oh darn! Too bad no one else is around, hauling bales is fun! NOT!

Real Cowboy. Sometimes I think that's the life I want for me. Enough of this city shit. OR maybe it's just today. I do miss riding horses every day though.

    Have fun out there Tommy.

Its not the riding horses you don't miss- its stickin your whole arm up the back end of a cow. Then getting crapped all over. Then losing your watch.

My brother in law worked on a cattle ranch for a few months and luck him, he got to pull the IUD's out of all the cows. How nasty is that? 500 Reach-ins and at least a dozen crap-ons! You're right, I don't miss that part, but the part where you're outside working with the animals every day, I miss that part.

My first ever race was the Berthoud HS. It consists of about 3/4 mile of easy MX and 8 or so miles of groomed 10 foot wide trail. If you are concerned about your speed or jumping ability you can just ride it at your own pace and stay to the side of the track rather than in the middle of the racing line as you get used to the whole experience. There will be guys out there on everything from Dual Sport bikes to kids bikes to full on 450 MX's. It's a good time. But a LOOOONG race so pace yourself.

If you rode the HS last year the track is a bit shorter this year. Overall length is 6.5 miles. The trails consists of the MX track, intermediate MX, and the trail system. They do a staggered start for each class and all ability levels show up. You are definitely not over your head. My first dirtbike race was a HS last year and it was a blast.

It's a great way to get seat time and also an excellent way of telling your body you hate it as you will most likely be very sore for a few days.

When did Berthoud get trails?? The only tree on that property are the ones the nearby houses have planted!

The Berthoud HS's are way fun.....just go at your own pace and hold your line. I did the first one of the season on a 450 pound KTM 950 Super Enduro Dualsport. Expect to get a very good workout in!!
