Motostrano is by far the best company I've bought from online or on the phone ! I live within 60 miles of their shop , and have been meaning to come in and drool fer a bit But really , I try to go through them whenever I can .I like my Shoei Hornet, but a cheeper lid for the trees sounds great!

    Default Ride Comments in!

I really did not notice too much of the shield distortion around the house, but there is slight distortion. You feel a little freaky from some of the distortion and reflection during the day at the corners. At night I got a little “spider web” effect from lights off oncoming cars and traffic signals, weird angle I guess. It is more of a cool weather helmet and a bandana helps chin freeze on a colder/ 50 degree ride. The wind is about the same as MX helmet and the shield reduces the drag you get from open face and goggles. The visor could be a little more aerodynamic or vented, that would help on drag at speeds a lot. I found that anything over 60mph it was the same as an MXer (without shield). I am thinking about a modification to open it up a little more. Noise in the ears from wind is most likely coming from the vents that have no direct outlet except under the cheek pads. I don’t like running with ear plugs or I-pod for the reason of keeping my mind on one thing, making it to my destination alive. I would rate this helmet as a pretty good deal but not an extremely well designed helmet. Additional shields w/ minor distortion are overpriced and that is another downside to this helmet. The R and D Division could spend a little more time with this. As with all things, Improvements can be made. But what do you want for a 120.00 dollar helmet.
    Pros: Inexpensive, looks, cleanable padding.
Cons: Uncomfortable chin strap, cheep construction (fit and finish), price of accessories, minor shield distortion, and wind drag from visor, {I had a little fog patch this morning and the shield was instantly worthless}.
Would I buy another one in 3 years? Eh, probabaly, I replace my helmets every three years or even sooner if I crash.

Well after getting the right size helmet. I started taking it apart to inspect things. And wouldn't you know it, the threaded insert for the visor and shield is spinning in the helmet. I think a little too much loctite was applied on this screw as the other one came out just fine on the other side. Anyone have this happen?

i already had to deal with shipping the helmet back for the wrong size, (someone at motostrano told me the AFX helmets fit a little small on most people) Any ideas how to get the screw out? I cant get to the threaded insert from the back because the foam is in the way...

Like others have said before, the fit and finish is not that great but then again it is a $120 helmet. But i will still be pretty happy about my purchase if i can figure out how to fix this damn thing

A long pointy dental pic would work the best. Jam it in and try to poke the insert to keep it from spinning.

Good luck! Yah, I know! FF is Shit...

I ended up prying up on the screw/visor/shield assembly carefully and enough to re-wedge the insert into its seat while I unscrewed the screw. both inserts are now super-glued into place to the helmet shell. I hope the superglue doesn't hurt the helmet in anyway. I've seen a lot of places that say certain paints and even adhesives can hurt a helmet... Oh well, maybe it'll actually work the way its supposed to now.
    Thanks Husky

Have you noticed how the chin strap isn't reallly a chin strap? Its more of a choker necklace...? I compared it against a Shoei and the location of the helmet relative to the back of the lid is about 2" closer to the back on the afx than the Shoei...

Definitely something that should be changed in the future helmets. Hope its safe like that and that I can get used to it

Has anyone wrecked on one of these helmets yet?

Yep, Chin strap is more of an Adams Apple brace. I hope I never need to find out if the location is in a bad place. It is a little concerning though. After having this helmet for over a month and numerous miles, I am reneging on the purchase of another one it will be replaced sooner than the typical three year mark. I am just glad its not my only helmet.

I have not actually. A few cases of the chin strap actually breaking but that's it.

I saw one helmet where the extra tab for snapping the strap tail onto, broke off but never a whole strap....
