Cycle Works Racing of Hanover, PA has done a few race engines for me and they held up great and made a ton of power. If you just want a stock rebuild with stock parts, our shop, THR in Virginia can do it pretty inexpensively. Pm me and I can do a quote for you. All of our guys came out of factory certified service and the aircraft industry, no shadetree mechs here. If we teardown a motor we do a complete tolerances check on top and bottom end components and give you a list of options. Commonly overlooked stuff like trans wear, gears, dogs, case alignment, crank true, and such can lead to premature failure. My honda guy is meticulous to a fault. If it's bad, he'll find it. He's a damn perfectionist.

This is exactly the input I was looking for. I sent Eddie a pm over on thumpertalk. Its a street bike that MAY see the occasional track day. I want reliability the most. It has an '06 head with Kibblewhite S.S. valves, stage 2 hotcam right now. All other internals are stock equipment. I mainly want it gone through for next years riding season and the SMJ rally at the gap in May.

I have been thinking of a small big bore kit and or stroker. I know that will reduce reliability but with the 15-45 gearing I like so much a little more low end grunt would be nice. I dont "rev" it to the moon so staying lower on RPM's and usefull tourqe would be nice.

RON HAMP!! that was an easy question..

http://www.ronhamp.com/

only hit him up if ya want low 60's out of the 450. he is a mod on thumpertalk.
my first 450 was a ron hamp motor. i got over 7k of hard street miles and the ONLY reason it blew was a failed stock cam chain tentioner. you bet your sweet ass that c-note part was the first to get changed on the 09'er

just for reference he is getting 42 hp out of a crf250r. thats 5hp less than a stock crf450r!!
you also could send it to pro circut but they are really expensive and getting out the same amount of hp.

yo RIG build the pimp crf450. i personally would love to see a full tilt motor built. falcon crank and rod, tokyo mods valves, head porting, and checkout their hi-comp piston. they make some pimp shit. there is no reason you cant build this bike with over 60 ponies and be reliable. you just have to talk to the right people and of course have a few duckets in the pocket.

If there is a problem with a piston, this may help with your search for an answer. The knock may go away after the cylinder heats up and the piston expands. You may also try some straight 40w or 50w to lead you in the right direction. If the noise goes away on start up, then you may be on the right track with a main bearing. Good luck!

I am not having any issues with the motor right now. I run straight amsoil full synthetic, one quart each side. I ran the motor this past year. I dont know its history except for the lst year. I just want a fresh rebuild for the upcoming years riding.

Thanx Aloha. Getting quotes for rebuilds now. I will contact him also.

BTW, if you CALL OTD, ask for Jonathan. He handles the paperwork, Eddie builds the motors.

Do it yourself, as stated - it's not rocket science.
