Default SB26's GP85 KTM Build.

Ok guys, now that i finished up the DESmini project its time to get down to business!

Most have already seen what im working with but just incase you haven't, here is what im starting with. Its a 2005 KTM 85SX. It came with a few extra bits (Breaking waves front and rear, Billet KTM gas cap, and V3 reeds).

I have ordered a LOT of parts to finish this build and to be ready to race. Ill post the parts as they come in to keep the suspense.

It was an extravaganza finding fork and shock springs for the 85 SX. I ended up taking to the very nice people at Cannon Race Craft. Bonny REALLY took care of me in getting the right* springs for my bike. Took some research but was great that they had odd ball springs in-stock* for my bike. They ARE the go to for springs. The new rear (orange) spring is installed on the shock. Im going to take my forks, springs, shock to my good friend Todd at TTR to fine tune and set up my suspension.

Here is my 2.15" X 12" Front and 2.5" X 12" Rear Cyclone wheels. Crazy story, i ended up knowing the owner of Cyclone (locally) though a friend... small world.

Next i was on the hunt for 12" spoke kit. The obvious is Buchanans for spokes. But i wanted some trick nipples . So i found out that RAD MFG sells billet aluminum nipples that fit Buchanan spokes. Buchanan spokes for the KTM 85SX are about $200 front and rear! I dont know why people dont buy from RAD MFG but they have the deal! They sell and STOCK KTM 85 12" spoke kits for $140! They come with the trickiest spoke wrench ever too! The spokes are off to the powder coaters.

Lastly for today i got my KTM 450 bar clamps. They bolt right on to the 85 to run fat bars. I have some REALLY cool bars coming my way .

I have my frame, swing-arm, sub-frame, triple set, foot pegs, spokes, hubs, side covers, bar clamp, and a few other bits at ShadRack Power Coating.

A shameless plug--- Shad is the BEST and CHEAPEST powder coater in Central Florida. When i mean best he truly is. I have had A LOT of parts powder coated all over FL, Shad had the best turn around (about 1-2 days), he clears the parts, throughly blasts the parts, great deals and stocks tons of powder. He dose a lot of innovative multi colors as well. If you need ANYTHING powder coated contact him at http://shadrackpowdercoat.com/ .

More very soon.... some good stuff

~Shawn

Some more parts arrived today.

I got my KTM Cycra ProBend Supermoto hand guards. I also got some KTM Grips and doughnuts. And lastly my carbon fiber bars! Very nice Now before anyone post that the bars are not a good idea (breakage) they are aluminum bars that are wrapped in carbon fiber. I believe they are 30% stronger and slightly lighter than a standard aluminum fat bar. Ether way there pretty trick!

I should have everything back from powder coating by the end of the week and ready to assemble! Moo haha!

Yes, to my knowledge Driven is the only company who makes them. I got the mini bend and is perfect. I was not aware of a "SuperMoto" bend, but they have super cross.

Almost the same shape as my Renthal mini fat bars, i liked the bend on those, so i should feel right at home.

Who let this guy (Carbon B) on.....

Well i made some serious progress today.

Once again i have to thank ShadRack powder coating for hooking it up once again. He did some really innovative 2 tone black/orange on some of my parts. Came out great!

My silicone hoses came in. Much needed...

Laced up my wheels. I think they came out pretty sick if i may add.

Any lastly i finished up making my Carbon Fiber frame guards. They look so good i may need to make covers for them

Much more to come, and a lot more custom carbon fiber as well.

Well i finished up some more carbon parts (much more to come).
Here is my Fork Guards.

Brake line holder.

Well i was pretty board tonight so i put the bike all back together. Just need to mount my tires, instal my chain, oil, rad fluid, and she should be up and running. Speaking of running i got my motor back together and cleaned up. Just waiting on my Graves catch can, safety wire some part and were ready to race.

Busy day. I got the bike almost finished up. Suspension feels solid, I was kinda worried about it being too soft, but it feels good. Just need to have it fine tuned.

So i went to put on the chain..... *1* link too short! What the HELL! No one in Orlando has anything longer than a 120L 428.... So i ordered new Vortex sprockets. I wanted to change them eventually, but i had to bite the bullet....

Just waiting on my catch can, few more carbon parts and numbers and were ready to race!

BING BA DA DING DING!

Thanks, id say under $2500, maybe closer to 2K. I have A LOT of hard work into this bike. It helps being a "do it yourselfer" and having friends / being in the industry. It would cost a lot more for the average Joe.

Oh i forgot to mention, (I feel as im the only person on earth with a SX85 on 12"s), in order to run 12"s on a 85SX you have to cut off the inside chain guard mount on the swing-arm... :( I wasn't to happy about that but it had to be done....

Thanks, i did give it some* thought. It wouldn't be easy and id have to have custom springs made and make some billet spacers to shorten the length in the forks. Id have to say, it feels really good though. Most likely going to keep the hight the way it is.
